Earth Day 2012

It’s Earth Day today! Let’s do everything we can to save the world. A small thing that we do will make a big difference.

I took this photo yesterday when my neighbor burned a bunch of fresh grass. The smoke was so thick, it’s like the whole neighborhood was covered with smoke. We have a law against this in the Philippines, it’s called the Clean Air Act. This law states that we are not allowed to burn garbage, grass or anything. So he clearly broke the law. Actually I have a lot of neighbors who does that, they even burn diapers which is so not good! Aside from the awful smell of the burning diaper, the gasses that it emits are harmful for the ozone and for our health.
I can already feel the difference of the weather 10 years ago from now. When I was young it does not get very hot here even during summer, we don’t reach 30 degrees Celsius. Now, we reach the 30’s which is very unusual, I have to take a bath in the afternoon. (Don’t worry, I may take two baths a day but I’m still saving water because hati kami ni Uno sa tubig. We use a pail and a dipper to take a bath.)
The picture above is my part on saving mother earth, aside from saving water and recycling.
Have you done or are you doing something to reduce global warming and save the Earth?
