Question: What men should wear to a formal wedding?

The person who asked this question wants to stay anonymous. (Sige ikaw na! Haha!) He asked me, what should men wear to a formal event, specifically a wedding? I immediately thought of J. Crew Wedding and that’s where I found some inspiration.

All weddings have color motifs, so that motif is where you should start. It’s nice to have a touch of that color in your outfit. When it comes to formal events, men I think, are the easiest to dress and style. But in some cases men tend to wear clothes that are bigger than their body built. It’s important to wear something that fits and will bring out your assets.

Outfit suggestions:

Men's wedding fashion

First look:Navy vest, black pants and white shirt.

I love this look because it’s very laid back at the same time polished. This looks reminds me of Downton Abbey where vests are just worn under a tuxedo. But since we are in the modern times we can wear vests without a blazer.I love navy with black that’s why I chose a navy blazer. The sleeves of the shirt should be folded like how the model wears it. It gives it a more modern and rockstar look.

A navy suede shoes gives this look more color aside from the navy vest. It’s important that we use a pair of nice fitting trousers in this look and it should also have the right length.

You can incorporate the color motif of the wedding in the tie. I’d prefer a silver satin tie on this look. It will definitely pop in the navy vest. A nice dress watch and a pair of a classic wayfarers should complete the look.

Second look: My favorite. Navy blazer, gray pants and a white or powder blue shirt. (I prefer a powder blue shirt for a monochromatic look.)

I think navy is the new black. This color is perfect with dark gray pants. In this look we are trying to get away with the traditional black on black suit. We want to give the look some color. We want it mismatched.

A well tailored and fitted blazer will make this look phenomenal and please make sure that the pants fits well too. Again never wear a suit too big for you. You will absolutely and definitely look ridiculous.

As for the shoes I love these semi hi-cut boots, these were inspired by my father’s boots. These is something that you can wear with jeans too, very versatile. You can wear black or brown boots, but I prefer the brown one. A pair of oxfords will look good in this ensemble too. Again, add the color motif in your tie. A nice dress watch and a pair of dark sunnies should be enough for your accessory.

Grooming:

When going to a formal event make sure you shave, especially if you’re hairy on that area. If you have an oily face, make sure you use one of those men’s facial wash to keep the oil at bay. A bit of powder wouldn’t be harmful. Now if you have dry skin, please please use a moisturizer. If you have time and the money, it will still be great if you get your face scrubbed professionally. Sometimes men should be a little vain, especially on these kinds of occasions. You don’t want to be looking drab in the photos.

Also make sure to take a bath. I personally recommend that you use Vaseline Men body wash. It has a very manly scent and also my husband uses it. Put on a bit of cologne afterwards. (According to Ms. Macasieb, one of my college professors, cologne are for men and perfume are for women. Just an FYI.) Don’t ever forget to use a deodorant. It would be nice to stay smelling fresh all day.

I will always love a well trimmed hair styled with a bit of hair wax, however some men prefer having long locks. If so make sure you tie it into a pony toil or just cut it! It will grow anyway. Too much hair make you look older, just so you know.

Lastly, have your own kikay kit containing some loose powder, facial wash, oil control film and a comb. Make sure to bring a handkerchief. Pamunas ng pawis hehe.

Your nice outfit will be useless without the proper grooming. So make sure you follow these.

There you go. I hope these helps!

P.S. Thank God for Polyvore! This website is great for making these collages.
