Frugal not Cheap

I’m lucky that my husband is not conyo. He’s the type of person who does not like going to places that are sosyal, actually he hates those places. Wala syang kaartehan except yung hair nya na gustong gusto kong gupitin. Sometimes I wish na maging maarte naman sya minsan, pero wala talaga e. Clyde likes eating siomai, especially at this food cart called Siomai House. This one of the things I love in our town, we now have a mini food court in Tiong San. Our place is becoming more convenient now. We ate here after buying Uno’s milk and diapers at Pure Gold and Tiong San.

We saw these dancing employees at Pure Gold.

More Dancing.

Spending time with your loved ones does not have to be expensive, I think it’s how you spend your time with them. We got to eat together and talk. We got to tell stories and chismis hehe! We talked over siomai and Twisto fries. This simple things make me happy, one of the best moments with my husband.

Conservative

Again, I will be complaining about the hot weather here in Baguio. The sun was so high that’s why I decided to wear shorts but I thought it would be a inappropriate to wear short shorts to church that’s why I decided to wear tights underneath. Also, I’m not so confident about my legs haha! Paconservative lang? Wearing tights underneath a short dress, mini skirt or shorts is a great way to transform non-conservative clothes to something conservative but still stylish.

I also wore a top that does not cling to the skin, so my outfit that day was super cool, literally. I love the print on my top, it’s tribal but feminine. I also love the cut because it gives it a bohemian vibe. I wore my sneakers to give it very casual vibe. Finding the right clothes to wear will really help beat the heat this summer.

Transform

I know a lot of women do this, women often turn their dresses into skirts to give it a different look. I am most women so I did that on my maxi dress, this was actually the dress I wore here. I wore a white shirt on top of the dress so that the dress will look like a skirt. To make it more put together, I wore a blazer. I wore sneakers to give it a more laid back look and actually I can’t find the right ballet flats to wear with it. This was the first time I wore a dress to the office after giving birth. I was shy to wear a dress or a skirt to work because I wasn’t pregnant. I’m afraid that I’d look pregnant if I wear a dress. My office mates are not used to seeing me wear a dress because I often wear pants and jeans to work. Now that I’m more feminine, I plan to wear more dresses and skirts to work. I’m flattered that I got complemented on what I wore yesterday. Nakakababae talaga ang dress!

Uno goes to Sunday School

image

(Taken with Cymera)

Finally, thank God, I wasn’t so tired today because Uno behaved because he went to Sunday school. Words can’t explain how glad I am. Pencils kept this little boy busy. Uno with other children draw and colored. Of course Uno does not know how to draw or how to write so he just scribbled and scribbled, he’s so good at that haha! I hope that every Sunday Uno will go to Sunday school so I won’t be so tired especially that it’s extra hot right now. I’m in Baguio and yes it’s hot! I can’t help complaining about it.

I think Sunday school is great because it allows parents to be able to listen to the Pastor’s message and at the same time, the kids will also learn something about the Bible. There are a lot of different activities for the children. They sometimes sing, dance and read, it’s like real school, the only difference is they study the Bible and the approach is made for kids. I just notice that children who grew up attending Sunday school grows up to be good people. They are obedient, God-fearing and nice people.

As for me, I just watched the children write and draw the whole time. I also took photographs so I could blog about it. Special thanks to Ate Gryl and Ate Kel for being great teachers! I know Uno had fun. Thanks for preparing the snacks too!

Big City

image

So Charles, Joy and I had a date today, because it’s payday today. Plano ito ni Joy, kahapon pa lang nag-aya na sya. They want me to try the food at Big City because they said the burgers here are good. I ordered their Grilled Burger with Cheese while Charles and Joy ordered Polish Sausage, that’s like hotdog in a bun. I’m no food critic but I think their burgers are a little too greasy for me. Sabi ni Charles juicy daw un patty, yun naman pala naguumapaw sa oil haha! Yes, the burger tastes good but again it’s too oily for me, but I loved the onion rings. The rings are really big, pero ang konte, mga 6 pieces lang ata yun. Sana mas marami, siguro mas natuwa ako, me ganon?! I tried a piece of their fries, I think it’s good, the slices are thick and crispy. I love that they leave the skin on, on the potatoes. Nabusog naman ako in fairness.

I’m a little disappointed because the cashier said that the meal comes with a drink but when I ordered, the cashier asked me what drink do I want, so I said coke and when it was time to pay, I paid more than the price of the meal. When I checked the receipt the bottle of coke is a whopping P48! It’s ridiculously overpriced, I think everyone would agree with me. Nainis talaga ako dun. Overpriced na nga, I had to tell them that they haven’t served my coke yet. Syempre nainis nanaman ako!

The only thing I liked about this restaurant is the design of the place. I love the color combination they used. Their menu is very simple and easy to read. And I love that the kitchen is just near the counter so you can see how they cook your food. The price of their food is pretty competitive, meal prices start from P100-P200.

My verdict: For me it’s OK to pay a higher price as long as I get good customer service, which I did not get that from them. I may not come back because the burgers are greasy for my taste and also they have poor customer service. On a second thought I might come back to try their other meals. Their other meals might not be as greasy as the burgers. Good thing I was with my friends, so the whole experience wasn’t so bad at all.

This is a new camera app for Android that I have recently discovered. I love it because it’s instagram and photoshop combined into one application. I would say that it’s so much better than Instagram, I love the filters and and the different camera mode that you can use. You can use it offline which is great, however you have to have a Cyworld account to be able to share your photos on Facebook and Twitter. I tried to create an account but it’s in Korean so I failed. I just wish it was in English because I love this app!

I’m too lazy to take screen captures of each of the filter because it’s a lot so I will just show you the screen captures of the different camera modes it has. You can transform you phone into something so different and take great photos!

Striped

I followed my sister’s advice, to wear dark jeans and wear a lighter top. I think it came out nice. I got complemented with what I wore today, someone said that I look thin. Magaling daw ako sa optical illusion haha! I will take that as a complement.I wore this top with leggings before, this time I wore it with jeans and I tucked it in because the top is a little to loose for me now. Does that mean I’m getting thin or is it because I’ve been washing it? Haha!

I love how Bayo designs their clothes because all their clothes are very flattering. Magaling ang nagcucut at nagdedesign. Their designs are simple but very chic.

If you notice, I usually wear Filipino brands, that is because I support Philippine made products. They have very good quality but very affordable. I think this is the time to support Filipino products, we have to let the world know that our products have a high quality and can compete with foreign brands.

Pinstripes and Florals

This is my second attempt on mixing prints. I paired a pinstriped top with floral prints. It’s a little safe right now because the stripes are not thick. I’m not that brave yet but I think we’re getting there. Basta idol ko si Camille Co when it comes to mixing prints, ang galing nya mag mix and match.

For my accessories, I wore a scarf even if the weather is a bit warm because the neckline of my blouse is a bit low, I used it to cover up my chest a bit. Paconservative lang haha! As for the bag, I got that on sale, when I checked the original price it was P1,390 but I only got it for P679, ang laking savings diba? Mahilig talaga ako sa sale, para tipid, sayang din yung matitipid.

Anyway what do you think of my outfit? Constructive comments are appreciated!

Google Drive is here!

Move over Evenote, Drop box and Box, Google drive is here! Google’s answer to iCloud. This application allows you to save files in a cloud which allows you to access your files from anywhere you have installed Google Drive. It offers 5 GB of space for individual users for free so if you want additional storage, you have to pay for additional storage.

“Google Drive gives all individual users 5GB of storage, as we saw roll out this morning to Google Docs accounts. If you need more than 5GB of storage, Google’s pricing starts at $2.49/month for 20GB, and scales all the way up to a massive 16TB for $800/month. Your Google Drive account is available on any browser, as well as on Windows, OS X, and Android. An iOS app will be available “in the coming weeks”, but is not available at launch.”

Source: geek.com

My verdict: I’m a little disappointed that it only offers 5 GB of free space unlike Skydrive that gives 20 GB of free space. I’m not using Skydrive just yet because it does not have an Android app yet. I haven’t tried all of the features because unfortunately when I tried setting up mine, I got the message that it’s not yet ready but I signed up to be notified. Hopefully this one will have updates that will give more free space. Even so, I will still be using Evernote, Drop Box and Box because they started it. I still love them!

I’m a sucker for this kind of applications because I have a lot of pictures and I like the convenience of being able to access them from anywhere. I also love that I am able to transfer files from my phone to my computer and vice versa, without connecting cables. It’s making the most out of technology. Who ever invented these apps that have clouds, I could kiss you haha!

Watch this video about Google Drive for more info.

UPDATE: As of yesterday, Skydrive lowered their free space from 20 GB to 7 GB. Sad face.

Dress into Blouse

The top I’m wearing is actually the dress I wore here. I didn’t wear it as a dress in the office because I think it’s too short for work. I love this dress because you can wear it two ways. My browsing of look books is now paying off. And I think I look slimmer in what I’m wearing, or is my photographer just good in making me look thin in photos? Or am I really losing some weight? Whatever it is I love how what I have put together today turned out. I think floral tops gives life to a boring office wear, that’s typically of black and grays and especially it’s summer so it’s best to put some color in an outfit. Moms should have some style too!

I feel that fashion bloggers such as Camille Co and Lauren Uy inspires me to be more creative in my outfits. Their style are far more edgy but I apply what I see in what they are wearing to a more wearable look for a mom like me. My sister said that my outfits “have variations now unlike before that I was safe.” Now I’m not afraid to tuck my shirt in because we have high-waisted pants and I have learned the the right shirt is also the key para di obvious ang bilbil.

I dress-up because I want to look good for my husband. He may say that I’m beautiful the way I am but I still want to dress up for him, I also want to do it for myself. I don’t want to look like a losyang wife and mother. That’s what I have learned when I had Uno, when I got pregnant I became more feminine and I felt more confident in my own skin. Being a wife and a mother was a great blessing to me because I became a better person. Thank God for Uno and Clyde!

How much do you know know about the SM Baguio Pines Trees?

Please don’t be mad at me for posting this video. There are always two sides in a story. I know a lot of people are mad at what SM is doing with those trees but I think we need to check on this. I think they have a pretty good plan about their expansion, economically speaking and environmentally speaking. Let’s not be hypocrites because most people who are from here bring their families there, I think even those people who do the rallies. I don’t think a huge company like SM will be planning on expanding without planning about it thoroughly.

Earth Day 2012

(Image from earthday.org)

It’s Earth Day today! Let’s do everything we can to save the world. A small thing that we do will make a big difference.

(Taken with Instagram)

I took this photo yesterday when my neighbor burned a bunch of fresh grass. The smoke was so thick, it’s like the whole neighborhood was covered with smoke. We have a law against this in the Philippines, it’s called the Clean Air Act. This law states that we are not allowed to burn garbage, grass or anything. So he clearly broke the law. Actually I have a lot of neighbors who does that, they even burn diapers which is so not good! Aside from the awful smell of the burning diaper, the gasses that it emits are harmful for the ozone and for our health.

I can already feel the difference of the weather 10 years ago from now. When I was young it does not get very hot here even during summer, we don’t reach 30 degrees Celsius. Now, we reach the 30’s which is very unusual, I have to take a bath in the afternoon. (Don’t worry, I may take two baths a day but I’m still saving water because hati kami ni Uno sa tubig. We use a pail and a dipper to take a bath.)

The picture above is my part on saving mother earth, aside from saving water and recycling.

Have you done or are you doing something to reduce global warming and save the Earth?

Weeeeeeee!!!

I just wore a shirt today with jeans and sneakers because of the weather, I wanted to wear something comfortable. There’s something special about the shirt I wore, they’re from Artwork. They’re a brand who makes cool t-shirts and the one I’m wearing is a design that won when they held a contest. When I bought this shirt, it came with a special bag where the shirt was put in a frame-like bag, so that the design of the shirt will be shown like it was framed, just like a real artwork! I think it’s a very cool idea.

Looks We Love from J.Crew (April)

Before J. Crew comes out with another look book, I want to share looks from J. Crew’s April Look book. I love their colors and prints, just in time for summer. These are all styled by J. Crew’s chic head stylist, Gayle Spannaus. I love how she mixed bright and sorbet colors with prints. I especially love the Soludos classic espadrilles, I think it’s so perfect for summer. This look book is all about comfort but with great style.

It's Raining Polka Dots!

Thanks to Bayo for introducing me to prints, now I’m so in love with prints, especially Polka Dots. I find those dots so cute and feminine. I think navy with white polka dots are the best! I think it’s very flattering to any figure. Polka dots is also dominating Madewell’s new arrivals! I don’t have any clothes from Madewell but I love writing about them because I love their clothes. I hope to see them soon in the Philippines. The pictures below are my favorite pieces from their collection.

(Taken with Instagram)*

I love this polka dots dress, I hope I could find a similar dress here. It’s conservative but very trendy. That polka dot flats are great, you could practically wear them with anything.

The dress on the left is perfect for summer. I’m still obsessed with this Keds for Madewell polka dot sneaker.

These separates are great, I think they’re must haves!

My Favorite Photo Apps

In my previous post, I talked about my favorite android applications. This time I will be sharing my favorite photo applications. I use my phone most of the time to take pictures because it’s handy, since my phone does not have the nicest camera built-in to it, unless we have good lighting, I rely on this photo applications to do the trick for me, to make photos look like they have been taken by a real camera. I love that these applications are easy to use, with just a touch of a button your photo will look different and beautiful, it’s like it has been taken by a professional photographer. You might say why don’t I use Adobe Photoshop. Yes, I do use that but most of the time, I just use it to add watermark and sometimes re-size the photos, if needed. By the way I use Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended, that’s courtesy of my sister, she gave me the installer. Also Photoshop could be a bit tricky sometimes, for a lazy person like me I just use these applications, because most of them have a PC version and an Android version.

Pixlr-o’matic, the very first photo app I used on my phone. The great thing about it  is it has a browser version. So I can use it on my browser and on my phone. This app has a lot of filters. When I say a lot, I mean a lot! Good thing is you can use this app offline, you don’t have to have data connection or internet access to use it.

Streamzoo is Instagram’s greatest competitor. This application is available for both Android and IOS platforms even before when Instagram wasn’t available for Android. Honestly, Streamzoo is much better than Instagram. I like the filters of this app more than the filters on Instagram. I have been using this app for a lon. I love the filter called Toy Hipster, the photos look vintage but the colors are still vibrant.

Follow me on Streamzoo: eypolapol

Finally, Instagram! The app that a lot of Android users have waited, including me. I even signed up so that I get notified when it becomes available, and right after I received the email, I immediately downloaded it and signed up. The filters on Streamzoo are much nicer however, I love the borders on Instagram more! The only thing I don’t like about it is that a filter is assigned to a border. I just wish that the border is a separate part of the application.

My Skin's Best Friend

I love this product from Garnier, it’s the Pure Active Anti-imperfections roll on! I have been using this for years and it’s very effective. I had a big pimple in my nose before that won’t go away, and this was the only product that got rid of it. So I apply this when I see that a pimple is about to pop, it removes the redness in 24 hours and removes it completely after a few use. It’s only P199 and it lasts a long time so it’s definitely sulit!

image

To apply, just roll product onto pimple and you will see the difference in 24 hours.

image

The box.

This product has been a part of my skin care regimen. I use it once a day after washing my face and putting on moisturizer at night. I have pimple scars too and this is also good in eliminating those scars.

If you’ve been wanting to have that flawless skin this is the product for you. Why pay for expensive treatments when there is Garnier? It’s very easy to apply and only takes a few minutes of your time. How about you? What is your skin’s BFF?

*Disclaimer: This is not a review, I just want to share how this product helps my skin.

A much needed rest

Before I went on leave I have not been feeling well. I think I got sick because of our trip to La Union. It was hot there and when we came back to Baguio it was all of a sudden cold and rainy. I think another reason I got sick is because I haven’t been having enough sleep, so now, I have a cough and I still am coughing.

I went on leave last Saturday because my parents will be attending a wedding and no one will be looking after Uno. This one day leave plus my two rest days is my chance to be able sleep a lot so I can recover. This is also my chance to do what I want to do and bond with my husband and son.

SATURDAY:

I helped style my mother’s outfit for the wedding. My mother and father are ninang and ninong, respectively, on the wedding. My mother wore a floral blazer, which I love because it’s perfect for summer, she just wore a white shirt underneath the blazer. She paired that with black plants. For her accessories, she borrowed my black flats from Celine and for her jewelries she just wore a pearl earrings and bracelet. Pearls are classic jewelries and are very feminine. It actually goes with any outfit, may it be formal or just a casual day out. I wasn’t able to go to the wedding because as I said, I am not feeling well. I just want to stay at home and rest.

image

I think she looks chic. I really like the blazer. By the way the handbag in the picture is Ferragamo, she got that for only P150. It’s not a knock off, she got it from ukay-ukay (second hand store.)

My dad just wore a classic Barong. He paired it with tan slacks and his favorite brown boots. He went for earth tones. Men are easy to style because you only let them wear a few things on formal events. In the Philippines it’s either an Americana or Barong Tagalog.

image

Mukang Congressman haha! He actually wore that Barong on my wedding. It’s a classic so you could never go wrong and also it never goes out of style.

image

My parents have been together for more than 20 years. Their relationship has been tested by time.
